Strawberry crop rots in Hisar district

Strawberry growers are facing losses as their produce is rotting in the fields due to a lockdown. Farmers in Hisar and Bhiwani districts are unable to transport their produce to the Azadpur mandi in Delhi since March 22. The Farmer Producers’ Association in Sahdawa in Hisar and Chanana village in Bhiwani has appealed to the government for availability of vehicles for transporting produce to the processing unit in Himachal Pradesh.

Rajesh Goswami of Sahdawa village said he had a good produce of strawberry on six acres. “This is the last leg of the season and I have about Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 lakh fruit on one acre. But the produce is rotting as I am unable to transport it,” he said.The Tosham Farmer Produce Group wrote a letter to Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala seeking permission to supply produce to the processing industry in Una.
