To raise the issues of farmers, the Shiromani Akali Dal will start a ‘movement’ from the birthplace of Shaheed Bhagat Singh at Nawanshahr on March 23.
He said farmers were suffering due to various reasons, including input cost of crops and Section 12 of the Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill, 2019.
Chandumajra said the Bill had already been passed in the Lok Sabha and now it would be presented in the Rajya Sabha.
He said the farmers had been deprived of benefits of the Central schemes also. He said the Centre had allocated a total of Rs 27,000 crore during the past two years to compensate farmers who were forced to sell their crop below the minimum sale price fixed by the government. “The farmers could not get its benefit because the state government did not submit the record with the Centre in this regard,” he alleged.
Similarly, Punjab was deprived of benefits of the Atal Bhujal Yojana because the state government didn’t present its case before the Niti Ayog, he added.

The SAD on Sunday asked the state government to declare that it would not tamper with the current reservation policy in appointments and promotions in government service to ensure the fundamental rights of the SC/ST communities were safeguarded at all cost. In a statement, former Speaker Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal said the reservation given to SC/STs should not be diluted in any way.
