Potato farmers of Madhya Pradesh contracted with PepsiCo, got price of Rs 11.40 per kg

Amid opposition to the new agricultural laws, farmers in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh have contracted with PepsiCo, an international company that makes potato chips . The company will buy potatoes from 10 farmers here. According to this contract, the company will buy potatoes at the rate of Rs. 11.40 per kg. Farmers of Seoni district coming to Jabalpur region are contracting their crop with a company for the first time.

Profit of 70 thousand

The contracting farmers say that they are likely to earn a profit of 60 to 70 rupees per acre from the contract with the company. Prahlada Thakur, a potato farmer from Dhenka village in the district, says that last year he cultivated potatoes under the supervision of PepsiCo. He had yield of 108 quintals from one acre. Which the company bought at the rate of Rs. 10.75 per kg. He received Rs 1 lakh 16 thousand from the total crop. At the same time it cost about 50 thousand to cultivate potato. While the yield was a net profit of 64 thousand rupees.

45 acres of potatoes in farming

The PepsiCo company has contracted with 10 potato farmers in the district. All these farmers are cultivating potato in about 45 acres . The crop will be harvested in the month of February, which the employees of the company will buy and carry. After which the payment of their crop to the farmers will be transferred to their bank accounts. Farmers say that after digging the crop, Wow will cultivate vegetables.
