Despite heavy rains in Rajasthan, sowing and production will be less

August 06 2021

Even though the farmers and the Agriculture Department have got a big relief due to the heavy rain in Rajasthan for the last few days, but this time the sowing and production will be less. Agricultural experts have given many reasons behind this. Due to the heavy rains in the state these days, backward Rajasthan has achieved about 76 percent of the sowing target in Kharif sowing. In the last 11 days alone, the area under sowing in the state has increased by about 44 lakh hectares. This time the Agriculture Department had set a target of sowing in 1 crore 63 lakh hectare in Kharif season. Till July 23, about 81 lakh hectares were sown in the state, whereas on August 4, this figure has increased to about 12.25 lakh hectares.

Due to incessant rains, more than a quarter of the total sowing target has been achieved in just 11 days. Till July 23, about 49 per cent sowing was done in the state against the target. But on August 4, the sowing figure has reached about 76 percent of the target. However, despite the good rains in the last days, the chances of fulfilling the sowing target set by the Agriculture Department in the state are slim. It is believed that about 10 percent sowing will be less than the target set in the state. At the same time, the production of the crop will also be less by 5 to 20 percent.

According to agricultural experts responsible for less sowing and less production, along with less rain, more rain will also be responsible. In fact, there was a long gap in the first rain in the state. Due to delayed rains, farmers also delayed sowing. At the same time, many of the farmers who had sown their fields in time, had to sow again due to the burning of the crop. Along with this, the farmers who have sown late, the grain of their crop is likely to be weak.

Due to the inundation of water, sowing is not possible even with delay , many areas of the state are also witnessing excessive rainfall. Due to continuous waterlogging in the districts of Kota division, due to continuous waterlogging, even late sowing is not possible. In such a situation, if it will not be possible to achieve the target of sowing completely, then the production of the crop will also be less. Agriculture expert Dr. Harendra Cheema says that now due to good rains, the area under sowing may increase but production will be less.

Expectations remain till 10th August

The months of June and July are considered to be the most favorable for sowing of Kharif. But this time the rain has delayed. So the process of sowing is also going on till now. Agricultural experts say that after August 10, the process of sowing in the state will stop. The sowing after this is not in the interest of the farmers. It is believed that by August 10, this figure can reach 85 or 90 percent.
