In Punjab, landless, marginal or small farmers who have been cultivating and in possession of government land for a period of 10 years or more as on January 1, 2020, will now be eligible for allotment of government land. For allotment of land, it will be necessary to apply to the concerned sub-divisional magistrate. The land will be allotted to the eligible applicant after the payment prescribed in the Act. The Punjab (Welfare and Settlement of Landless, Marginal and Small Occupant Farmers) Allotment of State Government Land Act, 2021 has been implemented by the Punjab Government for the welfare of landless, medium and small farmers. Bathinda in direct sowing of paddy In view of the depleting
water level in Punjab, the state government has emphasized on direct sowing of paddy this time. Due to this, direct sowing of paddy was done in six lakh hectares of land with this technique across Punjab. Farmers have used this technique in 23 percent of the area this year as compared to last year. The farmers of Bathinda remained at the forefront across the state. He has done direct sowing of paddy in 52.76 thousand hectares.
According to the report of Punjab Remote Sensing Center, Ludhiana, till date maximum area has come under direct sowing. This year, 23 percent of the total area under paddy in the state has come under this water-saving technology. After adopting direct sowing technique in the state, farmers have done direct sowing in an area of 46,820 hectare and 45,850 hectare in Sri Muktsar Sahib and Fazilka districts respectively after Bathinda.
Director of Agriculture Department Sukhdev Singh Sidhu said that last year about five lakh hectare area had come under direct sowing instead of the customary sowing of paddy, in which the farmers of Sri Muktsar Sahib had won by bringing 46,510 hectare area under this technique. During the current paddy season, farmers showed enthusiasm in adopting this technique, due to which the area under this sowing has increased to 6.01 lakh.
