Price of wheat at Rs 21 per kg and rice at Rs 22 per kg fixed

April 11 2020

The Union Food Ministry has simplified the terms of procurement of grains for adequate supply of food grains in the open market to deal with the lockdown due to coronavirus epidemic. After the tender process is over, the government has fixed the price of wheat at Rs 21 per kg and rice at Rs 22 per kg.

This decision was taken by a group of three ministers led by Home Minister, Amit Shah. The group of ministers included Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman and Consumer Affairs and Food Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan.

Following this decision, any organization or major consumer can purchase the required quantity of wheat or rice from the Food Corporation of India (ACI) warehouses. The purpose of this decision is that the supply of food grains was delayed due to adherence to the tender process and many other conditions.

By simplifying the process, it will now be easier to supply grains to any part of the country. Responsibility of traffic can be fulfilled by the railway. The government has taken this decision in view of the increasing demand for food grains during lockdown. This information was stated by Union Food Minister, Ram Vilas Paswan.
