Urea is being imported from various nations in the country. Urea consignments reach India by sea from some country via air route. The special thing is that this urea is being smuggled on the bicycle after this. The Union Home Ministry has asked the SSB, BSF and Assam Rifle to increase their vigil on the Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar borders. This step has been taken following a request made by the Department of Fertilizers, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
According to the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, a report has been received from the Government of Bihar, in which the local people are carrying bicycles and urea on their heads and carrying them. Later the same department had requested to increase the vigil to prevent smuggling of urea on the border of three countries. The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has ordered BSF, SSB and Assam Rifle at the department s request to keep a close watch on urea smuggling in their respective areas.
However, earlier the Ministry of Chemicals had denied that urea was smuggled. The Ministry also states that the State Governments have been given adequate powers to search, seize goods and take punitive action against a person who violates the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act 1955 and the Fertilizer Control Order 1955.
Explain that in the three years from 2017-18 to 2019-20, urea was imported from 19 countries. A total of 59.75 lakh MT has been imported in 2017-18, 74.81 lakh MT in 2018-19 and 91.21 lakh MT of urea in 2019-20. Among the countries from which urea has been imported, Oman is at number one and China at number two. After this, Iran s number comes.
0.96 lakh metric tonnes of urea was imported from Pakistan in 2017-18. Brought 0.91 lakh MT in 2019-20 from Malaysia, 0.43 lakh MT from Vietnam, 3.94 lakh MT during three years from Russia, 78.38 lakh MT in three years from Oman and 46.01 lakh MT of urea from China during this period Gone. Apart from these, supply of urea from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Bahrain has also reached India in three years.
