Sirmaur: Silver prices of garlic growers, Rs 75 per kg

May 13 2021

This time there is a bumper yield of garlic in Sanadhar and Giripar in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh. A large quantity of garlic is being transported to the mandis of neighboring districts and states through adhatiyas. However, the size is smaller as the rainfall decreases. Despite this, farmers are getting reasonable prices of garlic in the initial stages. The yield of garlic is estimated to be between 50 and 60 thousand quintals in the Sanadhar and Giripar region. The garlic crop is being transported to neighboring states including the mandis of Shimla, Solan.

Since 15 days, the price of garlic has remained at a minimum of Rs 40 to a maximum of Rs 75 per kg. These years, the price of garlic was reduced from a minimum of Rs 25 to a maximum of Rs 50 per kg. There is excitement in the farmers seeing the price rise. Farmers are bringing the garlic crop to the mandis on a large scale. However, due to the new restrictions imposed by the Corona curfew, the farmers as well as the farmers are facing problems due to the markets and mandis being open for only three hours for the last two days.

When the farmers leave the house for the crop, but they reach the mandis, they find shops closed. Dadahu tribesmen have sought to extend the time of the mandis. Kamal Raj Verma, Rajesh Thakur, Vikram Singh, Jagat Ram and Arvind Kumar, head of the vegetable market Dadahu, told that the opening hours of the mandis should be increased keeping in mind the growing supply of garlic. District Mandi Committee Chairman Rameshwar Sharma said that the demand for the jobbers has been brought to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner. Artisans in the market can get discounts for opening shops.
