Reducing the area of paddy by five percent became a challenge for the agriculture department

June 04 2021

In the agriculturally dominated district Bemetara, where the farmers have started preparing for the Kharif crop and have started arranging fertilizers and seeds. At the same time, after sufficient quantity of fertilizers and seeds have been stored by the government, now the agriculture department is concentrating its full attention to convert the farmers to tur, kodo-kutki as a kharif crop, due to which the officials of the agriculture department are working in the village. Arriving in the village and trying to convince the farmers.

It is noteworthy that if we talk about Kharif crop last year, then in one lakh 86 thousand hectare in the district, paddy crop was taken by the farmers. At the same time, soybean crop was taken by the farmers in 19 thousand hectares and this year according to the intention of the government, soyabean area has been given to 28 thousand hectares in the district, because now this year soybean is not available in the seed societies and market. Due to the high price, the interest of the farmers has remained negligible in the soybean crop this year, which can have a direct effect that most of the acreage in the said area can be changed to paddy, but the challenge for the agriculture department It remains, that is, the state government has given a target of 5% reduction in paddy area compared to last year, due to which this challenge will not be easy for the Agriculture Department. Because, soybean producing farmers are mostly showing interest in paddy crop.

Anger over farmers not getting benefits

There is also displeasure among soybean growing farmers that under the instructions given by the government last year, soyabean and tur producing farmers had got registered with the hope that they would also get the benefit of Rajiv Gandhi Nyay Yojana, the ambitious scheme of the state government, due to which 15 thousand farmers of the district had also registered themselves. The information about registration has also been given by the Agriculture Department to the State Government, but due to the deprivation of benefits to the said farmers or no decision has been taken on that issue so far, the farmers have been given the option of paddy. There is no interest shown in any way about taking other crops, they have doubts that like last year, this year also they should not be deprived of the ambitious scheme implemented in the interest of farmers. That s why most of the farmers are preferring to cultivate paddy. Now this thinking of the farmers is becoming a cause of trouble for the department.

Instructions have been given to increase soybean acreage to 28 thousand hectares

It may be noted that last year, 2,19,960 hectares of paddy, pulses and oilseeds were taken by the farmers in the district, in which the maximum area was 1,86,725 hectares of paddy and then in the form of oilseeds, soybean crop was taken by the farmers in 19,000 hectares. Went. At the same time, this year the target of reducing the area under paddy to 1,73,730 hectares by the state government has been given to the department. Along with this, guidelines have been given to increase the area under soybean to 28,000 hectares, which cannot be said to be easy.
