Shimla: An open game of loot from the gardeners, the bidding of apples under the handkerchief

August 11 2021

During the apple season, in Theog s Parala Mandi, some shopkeepers and shopkeepers have come out openly looting from the gardeners. Bids are being made illegally in the market by hiding under the handkerchief. In the presence of officers and employees posted by APMC in Mandi, the work of bidding for apples illegally is going on. After selling apples to the gardeners, the price of the crop is being told. Due to which the gardeners are feeling cheated.

APMC s claims of transparent apple trading in mandis have failed once again. Keeping the rules and regulations on hold, the bids of apples are being hidden in the market. Most of the brokers are bidding openly in the front side of the market from number one to 11, but in the back two rows, some brokers are bidding secretly. The gullible gardeners are being told the price after their crop is sold.

Big gardeners ask the arhtiyas to bid openly for their goods, but some small gardeners are unable to object to the bidding on the screen and the arhtiyas and buyers play with them. In the mandi, some traders and shopkeepers bid in code words by holding each other s fingers under the tray of handkerchiefs, towels and apple boxes. Different rates are fixed before holding one or two fingers or rubbing them on the palm. Apart from holding the fingers, the rates are also decided by the gesture of the eyes. On the condition of anonymity, some arhtiyas said that the gardeners get good rates many times due to the on-screen bidding. In open bidding, the buyer cannot be urged to buy the goods at a good rate in front of everyone.

Open bidding all arhattis

Harish Thakur, president of Parala Mandi Arhtti Association, says that it is not right to bid on the screen. All the arhtiyas have been instructed to make open bidding. If some brokers are bidding on the screen, then they will be instructed to work according to the rules.

It is illegal to bid under a handkerchief or towel. There is a provision to cancel the licenses of the agent and the buyer who do so. The mandi in-charges of APMC posted in the mandis have been entrusted with the task of taking action against the hidden bidders.
