Vet Varsity inks MoU to Optimise Level of Biscuits, Snacks and Noodle Waste in Dairy Animal Feeding

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana inked an MoU with SS Wastelink Sustainability Services Pvt. Ltd. New Delhi to study the effect of supplementing biscuits, snacks and noodle wastes to the total mixed ration on milk production, quality and reproduction in dairy animals. The MOU was signed by Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Director of Research, GADVASU and Mr Saket Dev, Director, Wastelink company under guidance of Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor GADVASU.
Dr Jaspal Singh Hundal, Principal Investigator of the project said that this MoU will help to evaluate the effects of the graded substitution of cereal grains by biscuits, snacks and noodle waste on milk production, its quality and reproductive performance in dairy animals. Dr. J.P.S. Gill added that the food waste is an ethical issue of global scale. The increasing availability of by-products from various food industries has long raised interest in animal nutrition and their use in animal feeding would not only help to economise feeding but also facilitate recycling and valorising the waste food to curb environmental pollution.
Dr Inderjeet Singh, VC congratulated both the parties for entering into MoU and revealed that the huge amounts of waste produced from processing industries need proper methods of beneficiation in the circular bio-economy model for their sustainable use. Dr Udeybir Singh, HoD of Animal Nutrition also appreciated Dr. Hundal for undertaking research work which would help the farmers to cut their feeding cost for dairy animals.
