SERIES OF PAU KISAN MELAS TO KICK START FROM SEPTEMBER 8

The series of Punjab Agricultural University’s seven Kisan Melas is all set to start in different districts of Punjab from September 8. The mela aims at exhorting farmers to cut expenses on social functions.

Divulging contours, Dr Ashok Kumar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, said the first Kisan Mela will be held at Ballowal Saunkhri and Gurdaspur on September 8. This will be followed by Kisan Mela at Faridkot and Nagkalan Jahangir (Amritsar) on September 12, he informed. The third mela will be organized at Rauni (Patiala) on September 19, he told. The Kisan Mela at PAU, Ludhiana is scheduled for September 22 and 23, whereas at Bathinda, it is slated for September 27, he added.

Dr Kumar said the melas will provide an opportunity to the farmers, rural women and the youth to participate with full enthusiasm and learn about latest agricultural technologies, new crop varieties and improved household management practices. At the stalls to be put up by various departments of PAU, farmers can interact and discuss their agri-issues with the PAU scientists and seek solutions for the same, he added. In addition, farmers can purchase planting material and farm publications at these melas, he said.
