Prices of potato touching sky and farmers pockets empty, acreage doubled in three years

Inflation hit potato has spoiled the budget of the people. Potato is being sold up to Rs 45 per kg in the market. Farmers have not benefited from the inflation on potato. Potatoes purchased from farmers for Rs 10 to 18 per kg are now being sold in the market up to Rs 45 per kg. Due to lack of cold stores in the district, farmers are unable to keep stock of their crops. Due to which it becomes compulsive to sell the crop at cheap prices.

What the farmer says

Potato-producing farmer Shahnawaz Rajput of Rataul village in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh has planted crops in 36 bighas of land. The farmer says that when the prices of his crops were low in the market, now the prices have increased. Due to lack of cold store arrangements, the crop has to be sold immediately. Sell ​​potatoes in local mandis. There should be a cold store in the district. Potato grower farmer Izhar says this time sowing of potatoes in 33 bighas of land. Right now the price in the market is good, but when the crop of the farmer comes, this kind of price is not available. Because of this, every year a situation of loss is created. 

Potato acreage doubled in three years Potato acreage in the district has doubled in three years. In the year 2018, there was a potato crop in 25 hectares, followed by 2019 in 30 hectares. This time the acreage has increased to 50 hectares.

Potato is sold in this way

Potato producer Shahnawaz says that if the harvest is done in the end of February, then the price is Rs 640 to 700 per 50 kg. But the price of the crop which is dug in March and April, it gets up to Rs 850.
