Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday held a meeting with the officials and stakeholders of Department of Fertilizers to improve the availability of Phosphatic Fertilizers (DAP & NPK) and reduce dependence on imports by making India truly self-reliant in terms of fertilizers presided over.

At the same time, discussions and plans are underway with the Mining Department and the Geological Survey of India to expedite the exploration of potential potash ore resources in Satipura, Bharusari and Lakhasar in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. All the departments are working jointly to start mining the potential reserves at the earliest. This action plan includes steps to reduce import dependence of costly raw materials imported from abroad and make it accessible and affordable to farmers.

For your information, let us tell you that rock phosphate is the major raw material for DAP and NPK fertilizers and for this India is dependent on 90 percent imports. The volatility in its international prices affects the domestic prices of fertilizers and hinders the progress and development of the agricultural sector in the country.

Keeping these things in mind, Mandaviya called a meeting with the stakeholders to expedite the exploration and mining of available rock phosphate reserves in India.
