Electricity consumption increased due to indifference of monsoon, paddy transplantation was done in two lakh hectares only

July 05 2021

Due to the severe power crisis in Haryana due to the indifference of monsoon, the planting of paddy has been badly affected. Even after half the transplanting season has passed, so far only two lakh hectares of paddy has been planted in the state. While the Electricity Corporation is claiming 8 hours power supply for agriculture, the farmers are talking about getting electricity only for four to six hours. If this situation of electricity and monsoon continues, then it can have an impact on the large area of paddy.

The Agriculture Department has set a target of planting paddy on 12 lakh hectares of land in Haryana in the season. To save groundwater, the government has imposed a ban on planting sathi paddy and has given time for transplanting paddy in the state from June 15 to July 30. According to agricultural experts, till July 15 is the appropriate time for sowing of paddy. Till now paddy should have been planted in an average of 6 to 7 lakh hectares. But deficient rains and power crisis have badly affected paddy planting.

Rising power demand during peak hours

The maximum consumption of 11,732 MW was recorded in the state on July 1. Since then, there has been a continuous demand for electricity during peak hours. From 4 days till 7 pm, the increasing demand is going from 8 thousand MW to 10 to 11 thousand MW. Because most of the time for the fields electricity is given only at night. In such a situation, the maximum load occurs between 10 and 11 pm. At the same time, ACs in homes including industries run more during the night.

Corporation claims 8 hours, Bhakiyu bid is getting 6 hours

As per the announced schedule, the electricity corporations claim that 8 hours supply is being provided for the fields, but this is possible only in a few districts. Complaints are coming from most of the places that due to overload or other reasons, the fields are getting electricity for only 6 hours. Due to this, not only the planting of paddy is getting affected, but the paddy which has been planted has also started drying up. There is a demand of BKU that more electricity should be given to the fields during the season- Ratan Mann, State President, Bhakiyu

Monsoon will increase the speed of transplanting

Due to lack of rain, paddy has been planted in only 2 lakh hectares. But farmers still have a lot of time. 15 July Paddy transplanting is no delay. By the way, paddy can be planted till July 30. It is expected that when the monsoon arrives this week, paddy planting will pick up pace- Dr. Jagraj Singh, Deputy Director, Agriculture Department.
