Due to the rise in tomato prices, the face of farmers returned

After the lockdown, the sudden jump in the prices of tomatoes has brought back the glow on the faces of the farmers. These days hundreds of tonnes of Tomato, Capsicum and Frasbean are being sent from low-lying areas of Mashobra block of Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh to various mandis of the state and the country. The price of red gold tomato has increased three times in a week. Transporter Pradeep Bragata said that on Wednesday, the price of tomatoes is 350 to 400 rupees per crate in Solan and Panipat mandi.

Tomatoes sold at Rs 18 to 20 per kg. In the initial phase, tomato was being sold at Rs 5 to 7 per kg. Due to this the rent of the farmers car was also not being met. Due to the arrival of tomatoes in huge quantities from Haryana in various mandis of the country, the prices had come down considerably. Haryana season is about to end now. In such a situation, the farmers of the state expect the rate of tomato to reach Rs 50 per kg.

Progressive farmer Pritam Singh Thakur said that during last year in Solan, the biggest vegetable market of the state, Himsona tomato crate was sold for eight hundred to one thousand rupees and a hybrid crate for five to seven hundred rupees. Most of the tomatoes and other cash crops are produced in the villages of Piran, Trahai, Nova, Lakhoti, Dublu, Talenji, Gowda, Shargaon and Neineti in the Junga region. About ten vehicles are being sent daily from these areas to different mandis.
