Vet Varsity s Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh bags Punjab s Best KVK Award

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, bagged Best KVK Award among 22 KVKs of Punjab in Zonal Workshop of KVKs Zone-1 organized by ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, PAU, Ludhiana in virtual mode. A total 70 KVKs from Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh (UT), Uttrakhand and Punjab participated in the workshop and presented their progress report. The workshop was attended by Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General, Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi, Dr. AK Singh, DDG (Agricultural Extension), ADGs (Agricultural Extension) ICAR, Director ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, Vice-Chancellors and Director Extension Education (DEEs) of Zone-1 state agricultural and veterinary universities along with heads of KVKs and their staff. Established just few years ago, the KVK received the award on the basis of its performance and working during the recent years.

Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director, KVK, said that the KVK had taken several initiatives in the last few years for bringing the positive changes in farming community of the district which helped in achieving the best KVK award among KVKs of Punjab. Last year, the KVK successfully organized several extension activities during COVID-19 pandemic and played a pivotal role in helping the farmers affected due to lockdown. To facilitate livestock farmers of Tarn Taran and adjoining districts, KVK also established Animal Science Lab where farmers can procure improved buffalo bull semen and can test cattle milk and fecal sample for early diagnosis of diseases. A mega loan fair in collaboration with State Bank of India was organized by KVK, where a loan of Rs. 4.00 crore was sanctioned by bank to 100 KVK trained farmers to initiate various livestock ventures. KVK also did exemplary work in the management of paddy crop residue in the border villages of the district. Integrated farming system involving piggery, fisheries and crops/horticulture were set up by farmers under the guidance of KVK which helped them to boost their income substantially. In the past also, KVK Booh and its associated farmers had won several state and national awards from various state and central government organizations.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, PAU, Ludhiana and Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU Ludhiana congratulated the whole staff of KVK for achieving milestone of Best KVK award from Punjab.
