Vet Varsity Fisheries Scientists bagged Bagful of Awards

Scientists and Ph.D. Students of College of Fisheries (COF), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) attended National Seminar on “Contemporary Issues in Fisheries and Aquaculture” organized by G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology at Pantnagar. It was organized in collaboration with the Society of Life Sciences (Madhya Pradesh). Participants made research presentations on Potential use of herbal growth promoting, immuno-stimulating and aphrodisiac supplements in fish feed formulation and Shrimp farming in inland saline areas; Fresh water aquaculture diversification; Integrated fish farming; and microbial control in fisheries products.
GADVASU team bagged the highest number of awards during the national seminar. Assistant Professors Dr. Ajeet Singh, Dr. S.N. Datta and Dr. Prabjeet Singh were conferred with Fellow of Society of Life Sciences (SLS) for their outstanding contribution in the field of fisheries. Dr. Abhed Pandey and Dr. Abhishek Srivastava bagged SLS Senior Scientist Awards in poster and oral presentation category, respectively. Mr. Ranjeet Singh, Aquaculture Ph.D student received Best Poster and Young Scientist Award for his poster presentation on utilization of Shatavari as an aphrodisiac fish feed supplement for most widely cultured fish, common carp. Another Aquaculture Ph.D. student, Ms. Deepa Bhatt also bagged Young Scientist Award for her poster presentation on ameliorating efficacy of turmeric against aflatoxin toxicity in fish, while Ph.D student of Department of Aquatic Environment, Mr. Sumit Rai bagged second Best Poster Award for presenting his work on phage cocktail development for control of bacterial contamination in fish fillets.
Complementing the team, Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean of the College informed that COF is consistently working to develop eco-friendly aquaculture technologies for water surplus (horizontal expansion) and water deficient (vertical expansion) areas, besides addressing researchable issues to mitigate post-harvest losses through processing and quality assurance. Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Director Research, GADVASU congratulated the team for their research excellence and recognition in the national seminar. Applauding the awardees, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor GADVASU emphasized to continue developing environment and farmer friendly applied technologies for optimal economic utilization of available aquatic resources for meeting the future production targets of the fisheries sector.
