It is grown in wide variety of soils. It gives best result when sown in sandy loam to loamy soil with good drainage system and high organic content. Avoid cultivation in saline soils as it is harmful for the Stevia. The pH ranging from 6-8 is best for plant growth. SRB-123, SRB-512, SRB-128, MDS-13 and MDS-14 are the suitable varieties for Punjab. For Stevia plantation, it requires well prepared field. To bring the soil to fine tilth, plough land 2-3 times. At the time of ploughing mix trichoderma well with soil and at last ploughing FYM is mixed well with soil. Transplantation of Stevia is done on raised beds. Optimum time for sowing is from February to March Month. Seedlings are planted at 18 inches distance and row spacing is 20-24 inches apart. Crop is transplanted in field, 6-7 weeks after sowing. When seedlings are transplanted in main fields use plant density of 30,000 per acre. Sow Stevia seeds indoors in containers for 6-8 weeks. After sowing cover beds with peat moss. Water should be given properly to retain moisture in soil. For bushier growth before transplanting pinch the tips of plant. Transplanting of seedlings is done on raised beds of 60cm width and 15cm height. Seedlings are ready for transplantation in 6-8 weeks. Water seedling beds 24hours before transplanting so that seedlings can be easily uprooted and be turgid at transplanting time. At the time of land preparation, apply FYM@200qtl/acre, cow dung/urine and vermin compost and mix well with soil. Apply fertilizer dose of N:P:K @11:45:45kg/acre in the form of Urea@24kg, SSP@282kg and Potash@75kg/acre. Apply full dose of SSP as basal dose. Nitrogen and Potash are applied in 10 doses in every month. Spraying of Boron and Manganese is done to give maximum dry leaf yield. Hand weeding is mainly done to remove weeds from the field. First weeding is mainly done after one month of planting and then subsequent weeding is done every two weeks. Inter cultural operations are mainly done to remove weeds because the crop is grown on raised beds and easy for labor. Irrigation is mainly done by sprinkler system or by drip irrigation method. The plant does not require water in plenty so light irrigation is given at proper intervals. In summer, apply irrigation with interval of 8 days. Avoid stagnation of water in the field as it will harm the crop. Plant starts yielding in about 3 months after planting. Subsequent harvesting is done at the intervals of 90 days. It should be kept in mind that while harvesting 5-8cm of stem from ground level should left as such for regeneration. Four harvests is mainly done in one year. For processing, leaves are used. After harvesting, drying of leaves is done. The leaves are air dried and then extraction is done. Then the leaves are packed in air tight polybags for transportation purpose and to increase its self-life. From extract leaves various products such as powder, tonics and sugar free tablets are made after processing. Mushroom cultivation can be done inside in well ventilated room, shed, basement, garage etc. Paddy straw mushroom can be grown outside in shady places. Three kinds of mushroom are grown in India. Button Mushroom Popular mushroom grown all over world. Can be grown throughout year. White button mushroom is highly proteinaceous. It is consumed as fresh or canned. It also has medicinal property. Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are major mushroom growing states. November to March month is optimum period for growing of button mushroom in UP. For good growth, it requires temperature around 22-25oC, and at reproductive stage it requires temperature around 14-18oC. Straw Mushroom Straw Mushroom is the third popular mushroom variety grown all over world. They are grown on cotton waste mixed with small amount of straw. These are small mushroom having small cone shape cap. cap is dark brown at top. Its three species are cultivated V. diplasia, V. volvacea and V. esculenta in India. Out of these three species Volvariella volvacea is cultivated in Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as “Chinese” or “Paddy” mushroom. These are largely grown in tropical and subtropical regions. It can grow at temperature of 35oC. April to September is optimum period for cultivation of straw mushroom. Oyster Mushroom or Dhingri mushroom Common and edible mushroom. It has tender flesh, velvety texture with mild flavor. It is a rich source of protein, fiber and vitamin B1 to B12. All the varieties or species of oyster mushroom are edible except P. olearius and P. nidiformis which are poisonous. Orissa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and most of the North-Eastern hill states are major states which are producing mushroom. October to March is optimum period for growing of oyster mushroom. It survives well in moderate temperature range of 20-30oC with 80-85% relative humidity. Spawn/Mushroom seeds preparation These are available in markets. One can prepared or produce it on farm. Freshly prepared grain spawn is best for use. Substrate preparation Mushroom can be cultivated on a wide range of cellulosic farm waste or other materials like waste paper, cotton waste, cereals straws. Paddy straw or wheat straw is most commonly used material for substrate preparation. Oyster growing in Polythene bag Add Carbendazim@7 gm along with Formaline@125 ml in 100 Ltr water and prepare a mixture. Add 20 kg of wheat straw in above prepared mixture and keep it for 18 hours. After 18 hours, remove wheat straw and place it on firm or netted surface and remove extra water from it. Add 2% spawn in wheat straw and fill this mixture in polythene bag of 15 x 12 inch. Spawned straw is filled about 2/3rd of the capacity of the bag and then tied mouth of polythene bag. Polythene bag is perforated with 2 mm diam. holes, about 4 cm apart, all over the surface for air circulation purpose. Then place bags in shelves in the growing room having Relative Humidity of 80-85% and room temperature of 24-26°C. Keep these bags in safe places and maintain moisture by sprinkling water on it. White cottony mycelium is developed on straw. Wheat straw changes its color to brown and become sound and compact. At this stage cut and remove polythene covering. In polythene, straw become compacted and become cylinder shape. Arrange these cylinder shape straws on shelves and maintained moisture by spreading water on it. 18-20 days after spawning, first mushroom is appeared. With interval of week, two to three flushes will appears. Carry out harvesting of oyster mushroom, when cap of mushroom starts to fold. For harvesting use sharp knife and it can be harvested by twisting off it with fingers. It is consumed freshly or can be dried in sun or with mechanical dryer. Within 45-60 days period, from one ton of dry wheat straw more than 500 kg of fresh mushroom can be obtained. For Jamun plantation, it requires well prepared land. To bring soil to good level, plough land once. Then pits are dug and are filled with Farm Yard Manure in the ratio of 3:1. Transplantation of seedlings is done on raised beds. For seedling trees, spacing of 10m on both ways is recommended and for budded seedlings, spacing of 8m on both ways is recommended. The sowing depth should be 4-5cm. One seed per pit is used. The plant is raised mainly through grafting or seeds. Sow Jamun seeds on raised beds having convenient length and are 4-5cm deep. After sowing beds are covered with thin cloth to retain moisture. To protect crop form virus attack the seeds are first treated with Bavistin. Germination starts within 10-15 days from sowing. Pits are dug before monsoon or spring season. Pits are dug with convenient measurements i.e. 1m x 1m x 1m. On these prepared pits transplanting is done. Transplanting is mainly done in next monsoon when the seedlings have 3-4 leaves. Water seedling beds 24hours before transplanting so that seedlings can be easily uprooted and be turgid at transplanting time. Do frequent hand weeding from the base of plant to keep the field weed free. If weed left uncontrolled then it will affect the crop growth. Mulching is also an effective way to reduce soil temperature along with weed control.

ਖੁੰਬਾ  ਦੀਆ ਕਿਸਮਾਂ ਕਈ ਤਰਾਂ ਦੀਆ ਹੁੰਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਜਿਵੇਂ ਬਟਨ ਖੁੰਬ, ਢੀਂਗਰੀ, ਸ਼ਟਾਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ, ਪਰਾਲੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਅਤੇ ਮਿਲਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ, ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਕੁੱਝ ਖੁੰਬਾ ਸਰਦੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੌਸਮ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੱਝ ਗਰਮੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਮੌਸਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਗਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਹਰ ਇਕ ਖੁੰਬ ਨੂੰ ਲਗਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਅਲਗ ਅਲਗ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜਿਵੇ *ਬਟਨ ਖੁੰਬ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਸਤੰਬਰ ਤੋਂ ਮਾਰਚ ਤਕ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਸਮੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਪਾ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ 2 ਫਸਲਾਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਸ਼ਟਾਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ ਤੋਂ ਅੱਧ ਫਰਵਰੀ ਤਕ ਹੈ ਆਪਾ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ 1 ਫ਼ਸਲ ਹੀ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ * *ਪਰਾਲੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਅਗਸਤ ਤਕ ਹੈ ਆਪਾ ਇਸ ਤੋਂ 4 ਫਸਲਾਂ ਲੈ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ * ਮਿਲਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਤੋਂ ਸਤੰਬਰ ਤਕ ਹੈ ਤੁਸੀ ਹੁਣ ਅਪ੍ਰੈਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਜਾ ਮਿਲਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਲਗਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਰਾਲੀ,ਬੀਜ,ਬਾਂਸ, ਸੇਬਾ ਆਦਿ ਦੀ ਜ਼ਰੂਰਤ ਹੈ *ਪਰਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਪੂਲੇ*-- ਝੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਾਲੀ ਦੇ 1-1 ਕਿਲੋ ਦੇ ਪੂਲੇ  ਦੋਨੋ ਸਿਰਿਆ ਤੋਂ ਸੇਬੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ ਕੇ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਪੂਲੇ ਦੇ ਸਿਰੇ ਕਟ ਕ ਇਕ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਕਰ ਲਏ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ *ਪੂਲਿਆ ਦੀ ਕਿਆਰੀ ਲਗਾਉਣਾ*---ਪਰਾਲੀ ਦੇ ਪੂਲਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਸਾਫ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ 16-20 ਘੰਟੇ ਲਈ ਡਬੋ ਦਇਓ ਗਿਲੇ ਪੂਲਿਆ ਨੂੰ ਢਲਾਨ ਤੇ ਰੱਖ ਕੇ ਵਾਧੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਿਕਲਣ ਦਇਓ ਕਮਰੇ ਚ ਇੱਟਾਂ ਤੇ ਬਾਂਸ ਦਾ ਇਕ ਢਕਵਾ ਪਲੇਟਫਾਰਮ ਬਣਾਓ, ਇਸ ਪਲੇਟਫਾਰਮ ਤੇ  5 ਪੂਲਿਆ ਦੀ ਇਕ ਤਹਿ ਲਗਾਓ, ਜਿਸ ਉਪਰ ਲਗਭਗ 75 ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਬੀਜ ਪਾਓ. ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰ ਵਾਲੀ ਤਹਿ ਉਲਟ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਤਰਾਂ 5-5 ਪੂਲਿਆ ਦੀਆ 4 ਤਹਿਆ ਵਿਚ  300 ਗ੍ਰਾਮ  ਬੀਜ ਪਾ ਕ  ਇਕ ਕਿਆਰੀ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉਪਰ 2 ਪੂਲੇ ਖੋਲ ਕੇ ਰੱਖ ਦਿਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ *ਖੁੰਬਾ ਦਾ ਫੁੱਟਣਾ*---ਬਿਜਾਈ ਤੋਂ 7-9 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਫੁਟਣ ਲਗ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ *ਪਾਣੀ ਤੇ ਹਵਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਰ*--  ਬਿਜਾਈ ਦੇ 2 ਦਿਨ ਬਾਅਦ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ ਪਾਣੀ ਦਾ ਛਿੜਕਾਅ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਫੁਟਣ ਉਪਰੰਤ ਹਵਾ ਦਾ ਸੰਚਾਰ 6-8 ਘੰਟੇ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਦਿਨ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ * ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੁੜਾਈ*-- ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਫੁੱਟਣ ਉਪਰੰਤ 1-2 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੋੜਨ ਯੋਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ **ਮਿਲਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ** ਮਿਲਕੀ ਖੁੰਬ ਲਈ ਤੂੜੀ ,ਬੀਜ ,ਮੋਮੀ ਲਿਫਾਫੇ(12×16),ਸੇਬਾ,ਕੇਸਿੰਗ, ਮਿਟੀ ਆਦਿ ਚਾਹੀਦੇ ਹਨ *ਤੂੜੀ ਦੀ ਤਿਆਰੀ*--ਸੁਕੀ ਤੂੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕੇ ਫ਼ਰਸ਼ ਤੇ ਵਿਛਾ ਕੇ 16-20 ਘੰਟੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਨਾਲ ਗਿਲਾ ਕਰੋ, ਗਿਲੀ ਤੂੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਬੋਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਸੇਬੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਬੰਨ ਦਇਓ. ਇਸ ਬੋਰੀ ਨੂੰ ਉਬਲਦੇ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ 45-50 ਮਿੰਟ ਲਈ ਰੱਖੋ, ਤੂੜੀ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਢ ਕੇ ਪੱਕੇ ਫ਼ਰਸ਼ ਤੇ  ਵਿਛਾ ਕੇ ਠੰਡਾ ਕਰ ਲਓ ਇਹ ਤੂੜੀ ਬਿਜਾਈ ਲਈ ਤਿਆਰ ਹੈ *ਬਿਜਾਈ*--- ਠੰਡੀ ਤੂੜੀ ਵਿਚ ਬੀਜ ਰਲਾ ਕੇ ਮੋਮੀ ਲਿਫਾਫੇ ਵਿਚ ਭਰ ਦਇਓ 1 ਮੋਮੀ ਲਿਫਾਫੇ ਵਿਚ ਲਗਭਗ 2 ਕਿਲੋ ਗਿਲੀ ਤੂੜੀ ਅਤੇ 70-80 ਗ੍ਰਾਮ ਬੀਜ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ. ਲਿਫਾਫੇ ਦੇ ਮੂੰਹ ਨੂੰ ਸੇਬੇ ਨਾਲ ਬੰਨ ਕੇ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਰੱਖ ਦਇਓ *ਕੇਸਿੰਗ*--ਬਿਜਾਈ ਦੇ 2-3 ਹਫਤਿਆਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਲਿਫਾਫੇ ਖੋਲ ਕੇ ਕੇਸਿੰਗ ਦੀ 1-1.5 ਦੀ ਤਹਿ ਲਗਾ ਦਇਓ, ਕੇਸਿੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਰੂੜੀ ਤੇ ਰੇਤਲੀ ਮਿਟੀ(4:1) ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ. ਜੋ ਕ 24 ਘੰਟਿਆ ਲਈ 4% ਫਾਰਮਲੇਨ ਦੇ ਘੋਲ਼ ਨਾਲ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਰਹਿਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ *ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਫੁੱਟਣਾ*-- ਕੇਸਿੰਗ ਮਿਟੀ ਪਾਉਣ ਤੋਂ ਲਗਭਗ 2 ਹਫਤਿਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਦੇ ਛੋਟੇ-ਛੋਟੇ ਕਿਣਕੇ ਨਿਕਲਣੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਜੋ ਕ 4-5 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਤੋੜਨ ਯੋਗ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ. ਖੁੰਬਾਂ ਦੀ ਤੁੜਾਈ ਲਗਭਗ 35 -40 ਦਿਨਾਂ ਤਕ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ
