Tips on harvesting Pearl Millet (Forage crop)

• Harvest the crop when the spikes begin to appear (45 - 55 days after sowing). 

• More than 50 percent of the crop should not be allowed to emerge.

• The fodder of the cut crop is more digestible and the crop is protected from Ergot disease, which occurs at the time of flowering.

• If an animal consumes the infected plant, it will lead to hoof and tail disease and can cause miscarriage in pregnant female animals.
