Some helpful tips to protect animals from the heat stress in summer

During the summer season animal bearer should pay special attention to the care of their animals. The following methods may be helpful in reducing the effects of heat stress in milch animals:

Feed Management:- Due to the outbreak of heat, the animal eats less food which also reduces milk production. In terms of nutrition summer green fodder is not as good as winter green fodder. So, due to the lack of nutrients where the milk production of the animal decreases, the weight also decreases, due to which the animal does not fall into heat and the gap between pregnancies also increases.

  • In order to overcome these causes, it is necessary to pay attention to the following points: -
  • Also increase the amount of cottonseed cake by 5-7 percent.
  • Give the animal a balanced diet. The diet should consist of fresh, soft green fodder, also add feed and mineral mixture according to the milk production.
  • 40-50 kg green fodder is recommended. But cross breed cows can eat more than that.
  • Up to 5 kg of milk in buffaloes and up to 7 kg in cows can be taken without any special feed with good green fodder alone. If the milk production is more than this than in buffaloes after every 2 kg of milk and in cows after 2.5 kg of milk 1 kg of feed should be given.
  • One quintal of feed would be fine with 2-3 kg of mineral mixture.
  • Feed the animal in the morning and in the evening when the weather is cold. Divide the total feed into parts and then give it to the animal after small intervals.
  • Use jaggery products in the diet to make it taste better.
  • Soak the feed in the water before giving it to animals.
  • Feed the animals a mixture of leguminous and non-leguminous fodder and do not allow the fodder to become over-matured.
  • Provide fresh water to animals 24 hours a day.
