Important tips for the maintenance of ornamental shrubs
The deciduous ornamental plants such as Lagerstroemia indica (Sauni), weeping willow, Campsis grandiflora, etc. can be transplanted bare rooted just before their buds start sprouting. For winter annuals off type and diseased plants should be removed for seed production purpose. The summer flowering bulbous plants like Daylily, Football lily, Tuberose, Zaphyranthes, etc. are also planted in this month in well drained soils rich in organic matter. The new plantation of Perennials can be done during this month. Whenever trees, shrubs or creepers are to be planted, tree pits should be dug of proper size. Addition of 2-3 baskets of well rotten farm yard manure is also recommended/pit of 3'×3’×3' size. For shrubs and creeper, smaller pits of 1.5'×1.5'×1.5' size can be prepared. Seed sowing of summer annuals like Kochia, Zinnia, Gomphrena etc. can be done in the last week of this month on raised seed beds. Suckers of Chysanthemum can be separated, after uprooting and are planted in field for further multiplication as mother stock. New lawn can also be planted in this month. Potting and repotting of the pot plants is also done during this month.
