Animal nutrition during the winter
Animal nutrition: During cold weather, animals require about 17 percent fiber, which is helpful in increasing the fat content of milk. Formulated feed for cattle should contain grain (40%), skin (32%), brain (25%), mineral mixture (2%), and common salt (1%). Cows may need up to 20 percent more feed in the winter. Furthermore, cereals high in energy (about 0.8% of body weight) should be fed to maintain normal milk production and other vital physiological functions, as well as to combat cold stress.
