Expert advice on mushroom cultivation

Procure and store wheat straw at a dry place for its use in button mushroom composting during the month of September.

• For the cultivation of summer mushroom variety (paddy straw mushroom), clean and disinfect the growing rooms for bed preparation.
• Wet the paddy straw bundles (approx 1-1½ kg each). Prepare the beds by mixing spawn in the paddy straw bundles as per recommended PAU technology.
• Watering should be done twice a day on the beds and floors of the growing rooms.
• Harvesting of the fruit bodies can be started after 10-12 days of spawn run till one month.
• For milky mushroom cultivation, the wheat straw is pretreated by boiling, spawned and filled in bags.
• Casing should be done after complete spawn run (15-18 days). Watering should be continued for next 30 days till the harvesting of the mushroom.
