PAU Advisory for Rice Crop

Rice: The larvae of stem borer bore into the stem and cause damage from July to October. The affected young plants show dead-hearts (yellowing and drying of central shoot), whereas, the old ones produce empty ear heads which turn white and stand erect. The fields showing more than 5% dead hearts (Economic Threshold Level, ETL) should be sprayed with 20 ml Fame 480 SC or 170 g of Mortar 75 SG or 1 litre of Coroban/Dursban/Lethal/Chlorguard/Durmet/Classic/ Force 20 EC in 100 litres of water per acre. Further application of any of these insecticides may be repeated as and when damage reaches economic threshold level.

  • To protect the rice crop from sheath blight, keep the bunds of the field clean by removing grasses. If the symptoms of disease observed, spray Nativo @80 g or Amitsar Top/Folicur @200ml in 200 litres of water per acre. Direct the spray towards the base of crop.
  • Control plant hoppers by spraying the crop with 94 ml Pexalon 10SC or 120gm Chess 50WG or 40 ml Confidor 200SL in 100 lt water per acre.
  • Rouge out and destroy foot rot infected plants from the field.
  • To manage blast in basmati crop, spray 50 gm Indofil Z-78 or 200 ml Amistar Top in 200 litres of water at boot and ear emergence stages.
