Advisory related to Pulses, Sugarcane and Green Fodder crops
Pulses– Do hand weeding in gram and lentil crop to prevent the weeds. Irrigate the timely sown grams around mid-December while irrigate the lentil a month after sowing.
Sugarcane- Water the crop till mid-December to protect it from frost. Start crushing and harvesting (to send to mills) early varieties. As soon as the harvest is over, collect the waste from the field and burn it and irrigate the field. Do not cover the roots with sugarcane stalks.
Green Fodder- To manage the lack of fodder crop, harvest the early sown oats. If there is a lot of weeds in the field then do not take two cuttings of oat crop. Garlic can be harvested to get green fodder in times of scarcity of green fodder. In the paddy crop cycle, there may be a shortage of manganese in barseem grown in sandy soils. This deficiency causes brownish-pink spots on the leaves of the middle stem which later dry out and fall off and the leaf becomes filtered. To cure deficiency, spray 0.5% manganese sulphate (1 kg manganese sulphate in 200 litres per acre of water) on new plants, two weeks after harvest and 2-3 sprays after 2 weeks. If there is a disease of stem rot in barseem, let the field be exposed to sunlight after harvesting.
