Advisory for farmers from PAU experts
WEATHER FORECAST
Forecast for coming week: Weather is expected to remain partly cloudy with possibility of isolated thundershowers from 9th- 12th June.
Warning: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (wind speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places during the period in the state.
Outlook for subsequent two days: Rain/thundershowers likely at isolated places in the state
WEATHER CROP OUTLOOK: Apply light and frequent irrigations to fruit plants and vegetable crops.
FIELD CROPS
Cotton: Eradicate the weeds like kanghi buti, peeli buti, puth kanda etc. growing on field bunds, waste lands, road side and irrigation channels/canals to avoid further spread of whitefly to cotton fields.
Whitefly also attacks other alternate host crops like brinjal, potato, tomato, okra, moong, mash and guar. Regular surveillance should be done for timely management of whitefly on these crops. Regular surveillance of whitefly on cotton should also be done.
Rice: Apply need based irrigation to paddy nursery.
Farmers are advised to complete direct sowing of rice during these days.
Transplanting of rice can start from next week.
Sugarcane: Due to prevailing hot weather conditions, sugarcane crop require frequent irrigations at 8 to 10 days interval.
To manage termite in sugarcane 45 days after sowing, sprinkle imadachloprid 17.8 SL in 400 litres of water alongside the rows.
Vegetables: Irrigate vegetable crops at weekly intervals depending upon soil and climate conditions.
Harvest fruits of okra, bottle gourd, cucumber, bittergourd, spongegourd, tinda, and summer squash etc when green and tender.
Harvest muskmelon and watermelon after checking for sweetness and flesh colour.
It is the time sowing of okra and cucurbits such as cucumber, bottle gourd, sponge gourd, pumpkin etc.
Fruits: Apply light and frequent irrigations to fruit plants such as pear, citrus, late bearing peach
Apply whitewash to tree trunks to protect them intense solar radiations.
Apply recommended dose of FYM and inorganic fertilisers to guava plants if not applied earlier.
