Characteristics of fruit and shoot borer in Sponge gourd
Sponge gourd: The farmers who are cultivating bottle gourd should irrigate the fields regularly to ensure the there is enough moisture. If there are signs of fruit and shoot borer, i.e. the insect bites the twigs of the plants at the place near the pod and later enters the fruit and damages them, which caused the falling of twigs in the initial stage and eventually the plant dies.
For its management, spray Malathion 50 EC@100ml/500Ltr of water or Emamectin Benzoate 5SG@200gm/Ltr of water and destroy affected twigs and fruits outside the field from time to time.
