Advisory for livestock, poultry farming and fish farming

COW- With the onset of cold seasons, the farmers must take special care of water management. Water, possibly lukewarm, should be clean and available four times a day at their drinking time. General health of the animal and milk production is greatly affected by water management.

CHICKEN- With reference to laying birds, one thing very important is light management during current season. Naturally, birds go on molting in short days i.e. in winter. The process of natural molting takes about four months and hence the birds go out of production. In such circumstances, it is very much important to give extra dose of light to keep them in production. Normal light duration of 14-16 hours is recommended.

COMMON CARP- During winters, various fungal, bacterial and parasitic diseases like fin rot, gill rot, EUS and argulosis may appear in the fish. Treat the pond with CIFAX @ 400 ml/acre just before the onset of winters. Also treat the pond with potassium permanganate @ 1-2 kg/acre or limestone @ 50-100 kg/acre. Salt application @ 100 kg/acre also helps in protecting fish against disease outbreak during winters.
