Method to treat animal’s hay/straw with urea

Micro-organism present in the cattle’s skin, break the urea into protein to meet the need of the animal’s body. Therefore, while using 1% of the urea in the distribution of animals feed, urea should be well mixed in distribution and there should be no urea lump present in it. So if you use urea to treat the animal’s hay/straw, then nutrient properties of hay/straw can be increased and the treated hay/straw can be used in the dry form to fulfil the protein needs of the cattle body.

How urea can be used to treat hay/straw?

To treat hay/straw with urea, take 4 quintals of dry or crushed rice/wheat straw and lay it on a clean ground. Then dissolve 14 kg urea in 200 litres of water and sprinkle on dry hay/straw so that all the hay/straw get wet. After mixing it properly, keep it covered and pressed for 9 days. After mixing it well, keep it pressed under a rug for 9 days. After 9 days, the treated hay straw is ready, it becomes nutritious and soft.

How to feed the cattle?

While feeding, open the rug from one side and allow some sir to pass through it. If you not let the air pass through it, then ammonia gas is formed and it starts stinging in the eyes of the animal. Then lure the cattle towards the feed. The treated hay straw can be fed to big animals by mixing 1 kg of it in every 4 kg green fodder.

Note: It should not be used for horses, pigs and animals under 6 months of age.
