Instead of watering the fields in the state, the canals are destroying crops. These conditions have arisen due to the lack of proper cleaning and dressing. If this is the situation in the Sultanpur and Rae Bareli districts adjacent to the capital Lucknow, then you can get an idea of the other districts. At the same time, the irrigation department has shown more work than the target in its record.
Significantly, this time before Rabi, the target of cleaning canals was 42,215 km long. A budget of Rs 155 crore was given for this. According to the records of the irrigation department, from October to December 15, the silts of 43 thousand km canals have been cleaned. It has 15,000 km of Rajwah (large canals) and 28000 km of minor (small canals). There is a net of 74 thousand km of canals in the state. It has 25 thousand km of Rajwah and 34 thousand km of minor. The rest are main canals, which are not maintained in a cleaning-routine. The department claims that this time more than half of the royalty and 100% of the minor have been cleared. If the same minor has been left in the routine cleaning budget, then it has been cleaned under some other scheme.
In Rae Bareli district, about 1074 km of canals were claimed to be cleaned before the Rabi crop. But as soon as the water was released, the harvesting of the tracks started ruining the wheat crop. The tracks should have been repaired along with cleaning. But this did not work. Water came in Dalmau, Rahi, Salon, Jagatpur and Dinshah Gaura blocks area, but due to lack of proper sanitation, the crops are being destroyed every day due to the canals being cut. Raipur has been cut twice in Maheri Minor. So far 500 bigha wheat crop has been destroyed. About 50 bighas of crop were inundated due to the cutting of the Garhikhas Minor. The Maharajganj-Rae Bareli road was also flooded. About 100 bighas of crop were drowned by the cutting of the branch of the branch canal, originating from Dalmau pump canal. Sutta was buried near Mavai village after release of water in Hardo Minor. Due to this, around 50 bigha crop was submerged.
Similarly, as soon as water was released in the canals in Sultanpur, the canal department s claim of cleaning the 828 km silt was revealed. About 700 bigha crops were submerged by the harvest. The crops of gram, pea, wheat and mustard have collapsed.
In the year just once a silt cleaning
was before cleaning silt in Kharif and Rabi both seasons, but the year just decided just once silt cleaning in years before rabi 2017-18. The irrigation department is getting the cleanliness verified this time. The department says that the contractors will be paid only after verification.
Their saying:
Wherever there will be a complaint of not properly cleaning the canals, action will be taken against the culprits by conducting an immediate investigation. There have been complaints from two places in Sultanpur. Chief Engineer Sharda Sahayak has been ordered to investigate - Rajiv Singh, Head of Department, Irrigation
