This post will provide you a brief about potato cultivation, its varieties, time of seedling and treatment of seeds and a lot more.

Improved Varieties:

Early Varieties:

Kufri Surya (2000): It is a medium maturing variety which gets mature in 90 to 100 days. Its average yield is 100 – 125 qt/acre

Kufri Chandramukhi (1968): It takes only 80 to 90 days to get mature, so it is an early variety. Its average yield is 100 qt/acre.

Kufri Ashoka (1996): Early Variety. It takes 75 to 80 days to get mature under short day conditions

Kufri Pukhraj (1998): This variety takes 70 – 90 days to yield 130 qt/acre.

Mid-Season Varieties

Kufri Pushkar (2006): This is a white tuber medium maturing variety which takes 90 – 100 days to get mature.

Kufri Jyoti (1968): This variety takes 90 – 100 days to get mature and yielding capacity is around 80 – 120 qt/acre.

Kufri Bahar (1980): This variety has the capability to yield 125 qtl/acre in around 100 – 110 days.

Late Varieties

Kufri Sindhuri (1967): This variety takes 110 -120 days to get mature and hence it is a medium late variety. This variety has the capability to yield around 120 qtl/acre.

Kufri Badshah (1979): This variety takes 100-110 days to get mature and it yielding capacity on an average is 130 qt/acre.

Processing Varieties

Kufri Chipsona -1 (1998): This variety is medium maturing and it takes 90 – 100 days to fully get mature. On an average it has the capability to yield 170-180 qtl/acre.

Kufri Chipsona -3 (2006): This variety takes 90 – 100 days to get mature and hence it is a medium maturing variety. On an average it has the capability to yield 165-170 qt/acre.

Kufri Frysona (2010): This variety is medium maturing and it takes 90 – 100 days to fully get mature. It yield on an average about 160 – 170 qt/acre.

Time of sowing: Last week of September to mid- October is the best time for planting.

Seed Rate: Seed rate should be 12-18 qt/acre seed tubers of 40-50 gm weight should be used for autumn sowing.

Seed Potato Treatment and its Preparation: Take Monceren @2.5 ml per litre of water and treat the tubers minute. Seed potatoes immediately taken out of the cold storage cannot be planted directly. Firstly it should be made sure that they are properly dried up, use blowers for this process.
